Veterans Day services planned

Hospice of Washington County is sponsoring a free Veterans Salute breakfast Saturday, Nov. 10, at 8:30 a.m. at its 747 Northern Ave. office.

Morris Frock Unit 42, The American Legion Auxiliary, will hold its annual Veterans Day program and wreath laying on the steps of the Washington County Courthouse on Sunday, Nov. 11, at 11 am. The guest speaker will be James H. Warner, a retired, decorated Marine and POW during the Vietnam War.

West Washington Street, from Prospect Street to the Public Square, and the first blocks of Summit Avenue and Jonathan Street to West Franklin Street will be closed from 11 a.m. to noon for the service. For more information, call Donna Conway at 301-739-3590.

CHAMBERSBURG, Pa. - On Sunday, Nov. 11, at 10:15 a.m., a community Veterans Day celebration will be held at Christian Life Church, 1400 Warm Spring Road.


Veterans will be recognized by their branch of service. They also will receive gifts, and a luncheon for all will follow the celebration. Veterans with a picture they would like included in the presentation may send or bring them to the church. Pictures must be received by Nov. 4 and be marked with the soldier's name, rank and branch of service.

Christian Walker will be the special guest speaker and vocalist.

SMITHSBURG - The annual Smithsburg Veterans Day ceremony will be held Monday, Nov. 12, at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park, West Water Street.

The featured speaker will be Fred Shinbur, a Maryland Department of Veteran Affairs commissioner.

Chairs and a canopy will be provided.
