Strategic planning seminar for nonprofits held in Washington Co.

October 29, 2007

Washington County Leadership Development Program Inc. hosted a seminar Oct. 18 titled "Mission, Vision and Values - Strategic Planning of Nonprofits." The event was held at Cortland Mansion.

Participants were first asked to complete a questionnaire and the results of that questionnaire determined the placement for each group. Nonprofits were encouraged to bring their executive director and up to three board members. More than 30 individuals were in attendance and received personal attention from a lineup of presenters well-versed in strategic planning.

Participating nonprofits have been asked to attend an open house in December, at which time they recruit new board members for their respective organizations from the current class of Leadership Washington County participants.

One attendee, Al Boyer, president of Aspiring to Serve, said "this seminar couldn't have been better for our fledging organization, since we are a group of volunteers with much to learn."

"I applaud the attendees for wanting to do good better and am grateful to the speakers for their personal commitment to building better boards. I'm confident that our ongoing series of seminars will help to build a stronger and better connected community," said Cindy Kalkbrenner, executive director of Leadership Washington County.

The event was made possible in part thanks to a contribution from the United Way of Washington County.
