Alpha Associates

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Richard Klein, PE, M.ASCE, chairman and chief executive officer of Alpha Associates Inc., has been named West Virginia Civil Engineer of the Year by the West Virginia Section of the American Society of Civil Engineers.

Klein is a 1973 graduate of West Virginia Institute of Technology with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering. In 1987, he received an MBA from the University of Charleston.

Klein has been with Alpha Associates in the company's Martinsburg office since 1995.

He spent 22 years in the field of public works engineering, working on projects throughout West Virginia. At Alpha Associates, he continues his work in public works as well as in the private development field.


Saunders Tax & Accounting

Teresa Spruill has joined the year-round staff of Saunders Tax & Accounting in Hagers-town.

She will serve as the lead teacher for Saunders Tax School, where she will teach students how to prepare a variety of tax returns and to reduce the tax liability as allowed.

During tax season, she will shift from that role to one of full-time tax professional in an effort to provide more appointment times for clients. After tax season, she will assist the accounting staff with the needs of the company's business clients.

Spruill has six years of professional tax preparation experience and three tax seasons as a part-time preparer for Saunders Tax & Accounting.

She retired from the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman and most recently worked for the local hospital's Education Center assisting young women who had obesity problems.

Dana Betts has been promoted to the position of full-time insert machine operator in the Packaging & Distribution Department at The Herald-Mail. A graduate of South Hagerstown High School, Betts has been with the company since 2003 as a part-time inserter and part-time machinist assistant.

· Tonya Netz and Brittany Peck have been promoted to part-time packaging assistant positions. Netz, a Williamsport High graduate, has been with the company since March 2005, serving as a part-time inserter, and working in the Human Resources Department. Peck, a South Hagerstown High graduate, recently rejoined the Packaging staff. She worked in the department from September 2005 to December 2006.

In Circulation, Tonya Gardner has been hired as a state zone manager. A graduate of Williamsport High School, and the Washington County Technical High School, Gardner worked in an independent contractor, delivery capacity since 2001. Prior to that, she was a warehouse manager for Tri-State Electric for five years.

· Also in Circulation, Heidi Brassard has been hired as a part-time customer service representative.

· Celebrating milestone anniversaries in November are Mia Hoover, newsroom, 20 years; Lesa Selders, newsroom, and Brian Taylor, Information Technology, 10 years; and Patricia Jones, Circulation, and Tim Koelble, newsroom, five years.

Jefferson Primary Care

RANSON, W.Va. - Internist Safa M. Osman, M.D., recently joined Sharon Peake, M.D., and the staff at Jefferson Primary Care, at 121 W. Third Ave. in Ranson.

Osman received her medical degree from Omdurman Islamic University in Omdurman, Sudan, and completed her residency in internal medicine at New York Medical College - Our Lady of Mercy Medical Center in New York.

In addition to her private practice, Osman will be a member of the active medical staff at West Virginia University Hospitals-East's Jefferson Memorial Hospital.

Weiss Brothers

Judy Lucas, of Weiss Brothers of Hagerstown Inc., in Hagerstown, was awarded a certificate of achievement for successfully completing a seminar for sales professionals.

The seminar was conducted by Spartan Chemical Co. Inc. in Maumee, Ohio.

Weiss Brothers is an authorized distributor of Spartan's full line of specialty maintenance products.

Celebrate! Health and Wellness Center

Karen Louise Reilly, a nationally certified massage therapist and registered aromatherapist, recently joined the staff of Celebrate! Health and Wellness Center in the Turner Building in Hagerstown.

Reilly practices aromatherapy, massage therapy, craniosacral therapy, energy medicine and Reiki.

In addition to seeing clients, she will offer classes and workshops in aromatherapy, complementary cancer care, pain management and menopause mentoring.

In addition to being a nationally certified massage therapist licensed in Maryland, she is a registered aromatherapist, a Tera Mai Seichem and Usui Reiki master as well as a craniosacral therapist.

She also has an office in Knoxville.

Tri-State Printing

Sam and Julia Wright of Tri-State Printing in Hagers-town were recognized for their company's sales growth by CPrint - Certified Printers International - during semi-annual board meetings in Jacksonville, Fla.

CPrint awards printers who have demonstrated a significant sales growth over the year.

Tom Crouser, CPrint president said Tri-State Printing is among those companies that are seeing sales increases despite the slow economy.
