It was a beautiful night for a parade

Almost 10,000 people participated Saturday night in the 83rd Alsatia Mummers Parade in downtown Hagerstown.

About 190 floats, bands and other groups made their way down Potomac Street as thousands of spectators came out to enjoy the parade.

One of the biggest concerns earlier in the week for James McCleaf, president and chairman of the Alsatia Club, was the weather.

In the middle of the week, McCleaf would have said he was less than optimistic about the chances of a dry parade. But his concerns disappeared as the sun came out Saturday morning. The temperature was about 60 degrees when the parade kicked off at 6 p.m.

"I'd say this year, we got pretty lucky," McCleaf said.
