Hagerstown man pleads guilty to assault charge

October 25, 2007|By ERIN JULIUS

A Hagerstown man charged with sexual offenses that resulted in the pregnancy of a 14-year-old girl in 1991 pleaded guilty Wednesday in Washington County Circuit Court to an amended count of second-degree assault.

Bonhomme Sanon, 47, of 125 W. Church St., received probation before judgment and was placed on three years of unsupervised probation, according to court records. Probation before judgment means the judgment can be stricken if the defendant meets conditions of the probation.

Washington County Circuit Judge W. Kennedy Boone III presided over the case.

In September 2006, a woman told the Hagerstown Police Department that she had been sexually assaulted when she was 14, according to Washington County District Court documents.

Police interviewed Sanon in November 2006.

Sanon admitted to having sexual intercourse with the girl, but said he didn't know she was so young because she already was a mother and was living with her child at the time, police alleged in charging documents.

DNA evidence proved that Sanon fathered the child, according to court records.
