HCC to host reception, sale of paintings by R. Benjamin Jones

The Hagerstown Community College Foundation Inc., will host a reception, show and sale of paintings by R. Benjamin Jones on Nov. 16 and 17 at Kepler Theater. Event times are 5 to 9 p.m. on Nov. 16 and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Nov. 17.

The event is free and open to the public. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the HCC Foundation.

Jones is an accomplished painter who enjoys creating still-life, landscape and portrait images of everyday life from his native Maryland, Lancaster County, Pa., New England and other places he has visited. He seeks to portray the gentle beauty of the world in his paintings of delicate flowers, New England streets and harbors, Amish faces and farm animals. He studied at the Maryland Institute of Fine Arts in Baltimore, the University of Maryland and Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Jones' works have been shown in many galleries and museums including the Lockwood Mathews Mansion Museum in Norwalk, Hurlbutt Gallery in Greenwich, Greenwich Art Society, Greenwich Workshop in Southport, McBride Gallery in Annapolis, The Greenbrier, Washington County Museum of Fine Arts, Baltimore Museum of Arts and The Smithsonian.

Raffle tickets, $20 each, are available for a chance to win an original R. Benjamin Jones painting valued at $2,800. The winner, whose name will be drawn at the Saturday show, does not need to be present to win. Note cards featuring paintings by the artist will also be sold.
