Baby taken to hospital after father drives into stroller

October 19, 2007

A 10-month-old baby in a stroller was not seriously injured Thursday morning when the father backed into the stroller with his vehicle in the Eastern Elementary School parking lot, Washington County Sheriff's Department Deputy 1st Class Rick Whittington said.

The father had set the stroller aside to put something in the vehicle and the stroller "slipped his mind," and he started to back up, Whittington said Thursday afternoon.

The stroller sustained most of the damage in the incident, which Whittington described as "strictly an accident."

The baby's father, Jean-Marie K. Ngahane, was charged with driving without a license, the deputy said.

A witness took care of the baby after the stroller was struck, and the mother and uncle were at the hospital with the baby Thursday afternoon, Whittington said.
