Council mulls stadium lease

The Hagerstown City Council on Tuesday discussed amending the draft of a lease agreement that, if passed, would allow the council to lease the city-owned Municipal Stadium to the Hagerstown Suns from Jan. 1, 2008, to Dec. 31, 2009.

To prevent fireworks displays from annoying residents who live near the stadium, the council agreed to amend the draft so that the displays could not begin after 10:45 p.m. and must end no later than 11 p.m.

The initial draft said fireworks displays at the stadium could last late into the evening until 11:45 p.m.

A vote on the lease agreement is scheduled Oct. 23.

Council to authorize home demolition

During its meeting next week, the Hagerstown City Council is scheduled to authorize the demolition of a house at 337 Jonathan St. at the owner's expense.

The council discussed bids Tuesday to hire a private company to raze the house. The lowest bid was submitted by Allegany Wrecking for $14,700.
