Magnet school program topic of today's Washington Co. meeting

Information about the magnet programs offered by Washington County Public Schools will be presented today in a meeting at South Hagerstown High School from 6 to 7 p.m.

The school system offers magnet programming at four elementary schools and three middle schools:


· Boonsboro Elementary School for World Languages and Global Communication

· Emma K. Doub School for Integrated Arts and Technology

· Fountaindale School for Arts and Academic Excellence

· Williamsport Elementary Magnet School for Mathematics, Science and Technology

Middle school

· Boonsboro Magnet Middle School for World Languages and Global Communication

· E. Russell Hicks Magnet Middle School for Integrated Arts and Technology


· Springfield Magnet Middle School for Math, Science and Technology

Magnet program applications for 2008 will be available in schools today and at the meeting. Applications will also be available on the school system's Web site at

Magnet programs offer advanced learning for academically gifted students, as well as enrichment programs that benefit all students at each magnet school.

For program and application information, contact the school principal or the Office of Advanced Programs at 301-766-2992. The selection process includes a student interview, parent questionnaire, and a review of academic achievement and standardized test scores.
