Navy Seaman Recruit Damien P. Elser, son of Christine M. Rhodes of Fannettsburg, Pa., and James E. Elser of Chambersburg, Pa., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Elser is a 2007 graduate of Fannett-Metal High School in Willow Hill, Pa.

Marine Corps Pfc. Grason P. Burkett, son of Dolores and Gregory Burkett of Martinsburg, W.Va., recently received a Meritorious Mast for outstanding service. Meritorious Mast is a ceremony in which an individual is officially recognized by his commanding officer for superior performance.

Burkett received the recognition while assigned with Marine Air Control Squadron Four, Marine Corps Air Station, Iwakuni, Japan.

Burkett is a 2005 graduate of Hedgesville (W.Va.) High School.

Michael D. Gervasio, son of Donna L. Fry of Chambersburg, Pa., has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) Leader's Training Course at Fort Knox, Ky.

The four-week course is a leadership internship for cadets that can lead to the ultimate goal of becoming an Army officer. College students experience and examine the Army without incurring an obligation to serve in the Army or ROTC, and are eligible to receive two-year college scholarship offers and attend the Advanced ROTC Course at their college.


Gervasio is a student at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Fla.

Navy Seaman Recruit Matthew C. Tennant, son of Lynn C. Turner of Charles Town, W.Va., and Kyle S. Tennant of Shenandoah Junction, W.Va., recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.

Tennant is a 2007 graduate of Jefferson High School in Shenandoah Junction.

Army National Guard Pvt. David B. Harbick, son of Rose Albertson of Martinsburg, W.Va., has graduated from Basic Combat training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.

Harbick is a 2004 graduate of Martinsburg High School.
