New playground equipment

October 15, 2007

The ribbon was cut Sept. 26 on new playground equipment at Old Forge Elementary School, highlighting the effort it took students and staff to raise money for the new equipment. Principal Dana Peake, above, performed the ribbon-cutting ceremony, which culminated fundraising totaling $11,500 from a walk-a-thon last school year.

This school year's walk-a-thon was scheduled for Friday and Mrs. Peake challenged students to reach a $13,000 goal. If the goal is reached or surpassed, she promised the students she would perform a "dare" to honor their success.

"The school reaps the benefits of the hard work and dedication the students display on these projects," according to Peake, "but if I can make it fun and show the children that their effort is rewarded, we all gain from it."
