Courses offer tips on financial matters

October 15, 2007

Two popular classes about paying down debt and spending more wisely are being offered through Hagerstown Community College's Center for Continuing Education.

Whether you have taken these classes in the past and need a refresher, or realize it's time to gain control of your finances, these workshops offer tips on becoming financially independent.

The first course, "Invest in Your Debt," is designed for anyone who would like to live a debt-free lifestyle. The workshop will show students how to pay off all credit cards, car payments, etc., in one to three years, and then pay off a mortgage in another three to four years. The class will meet Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $46.

The second course, "Spend Smart," focuses on using a "reverse budget" technique that involves planning for saving rather than tracking spending.

Students will learn how to use their current income in better ways and get away from the "more month than money" dilemma. This class meets Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 6 to 9 p.m. Cost is $46.
