Man held on drug, traffic charges



A 21-year-old man was being held Thursday on a $175,000 bond after police said they saw him riding an unregistered motorcycle without a license Wednesday and found crack and marijuana in his pockets, according to Washington County District Court documents.

Rasheed Shomd, whose address is unknown, was charged with possessing narcotics with intent to distribute, possessing crack, marijuana and drug paraphernalia, obstructing and hindering, operating an unregistered and uninsured motor vehicle, and driving without a license, according to court documents.

Police approached Shomd around 12:44 p.m. Wednesday after getting a call about a motorcycle going the wrong way on West Franklin Street, according to charging documents. Police said Shomd gave them a New York identification card saying he was a 44-year-old named "William Ford," according to the documents. The FBI identified the man's fingerprints as belonging to Shomd, police said.




North Branch inmate charged with assault



A North Branch Correctional Institution inmate will face charges in Washington County Circuit Court after a District Court judge found probable cause Thursday that he struck another inmate in the head with a lock in a sock at the Maryland Correctional Training Center in August.

Warren Johnson, 30, was charged Sept. 11 with first- and second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and concealing a dangerous weapon, according to court documents. Police said Johnson struck the other inmate in the back of his head Aug. 13, causing two deep wounds to the crown of his head, according to charging documents.
