A 20-year-old Texas man was charged Thursday after police said he rear-ended a school bus driving elementary school students home on U.S. 40, Maryland State Police said.

Scott Barrett Rago of Hockley, Texas, was charged with failure to control his speed to avoid the collision, police said.

The Washington County school bus was stopped on eastbound U.S. 40, east of Md. 63, at 2:39 p.m. with its stop lights activated, waiting to let children off, when a 2002 Dodge Ram driven by Rago struck it from behind, police said.

There were 17 children on the bus, but no one was injured in the accident, police said.
