Middletown Knights (4-1) at North Hagerstown Hubs (0-5)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Middletown leads, 12-3.

Last meeting: 2006 - Middletown, 43-24.

Last week: The Knights lost to Linganore, 42-0. ... The Hubs lost to Winters Mill, 24-23.

Notes: The Knights beat the Hubs in the Maryland Class 2A West final last season to earn a trip to the state tournament. The Knights have won the last 10 meetings. The Hubs last beat Middletown in 1993, 6-0. The Knights were shut out for the first time since Oct. 20, 2005, a 14-0 loss to Urbana. The Knights surrendered 347 total yards to Linganore, the No. 13 team in Maryland. Tony Boyer rushed for 81 yards for the Knights, who had won 13 straight regular-season games. The Hubs held a 23-0 lead at the start of the fourth quarter against Winters Mill before the Falcons stormed back to win. Winters Mill recorded the winning touchdown and two-point conversion with four-tenths of a second remaining on the clock. The Hubs rushed for 302 yards, led by Diez Johnson's 176. Justin Donaldson ran for 110 yards, including TD runs of 40 and 50 yards.


Frederick Cadets (5-0) at South Hagerstown Rebels (1-4)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Frederick, 16-13-1.

Last meeting: 1986 - Frederick, 28-0.

Last week: The Cadets beat Francis Scott Key, 47-14. ... The Rebels beat Clear Spring, 48-8.

Notes: This is the first meeting between the schools since both were members of the Tri-State League. Both teams now are in the MVAL Piedmont Conference. The Cadets are off to their best start since they began the 2004 season 6-0. The Cadets rolled up over 500 yards of offense in the win over FSK last week. The Cadets are ranked 21st in this week's state poll. The Rebels ended a seven-game losing streak that dated back to last October with the win over Clear Spring. The Rebels gained 346 total yards against Clear Spring. Rebels QB Wes Samples completed 3 of 6 passes, two of which went for TDs to Cory Shank.

Smithsburg Leopards (5-0) at Brunswick Railroaders (1-4)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Smithsburg leads, 19-10.

Last meeting: 2006 - Smithsburg, 26-12.

Last week: The Leopards beat Walkersville, 21-14. ... The Railroaders lost to Williamsport, 14-13.

Notes: The Leopards have won three of the last four meetings in the series after dropping six straight to the Railroaders (1997-2002). The Leopards led Walkersville 13-0 at halftime, but had to rally to win, starting the game-winning drive with 2:57 remaining in the fourth quarter. Bryan Faulders threw a 24-yard TD pass to Kevin Kocsis with 26 seconds left for the victory. Faulders threw for 111 yards and 3 TDs, including two to Kocsis. The Leopards surrendered 380 yards to Walkersville. The Railroaders nearly pulled off some last-second heroics of their own, scoring a touchdown with 2 seconds left in the game, but missing the two-point conversion. QB Bret Hartle completed 10 of 18 passes for 154 yards before leaving the game with a sprained ankle. Andrew Simpson had seven catches for 112 yards and a TD and Mike Minch had six catches for 96 yards.

Clear Spring Blazers (0-5)at Catoctin Cougars (1-4)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Catoctin leads, 3-0.

Last meeting: 2006 - Catoctin, 59-6.

Last week: The Blazers lost to South Hagerstown, 48-8. ... The Cougars lost to Liberty, 34-12.

Notes: The Blazers have lost 12 straight games. The Blazers still are looking for their first MVAL Antietam victory. The Cougars have outscored the Blazers 174-27 in the series. RB Jesse Jarvis has been one of the bright spots for the Blazers this season, averaging about 80 yards rushing and just over nine tackles per game. Jarvis carried 29 times for 137 yards and a touchdown against South. The Cougars got their lone victory two weeks ago, a 31-30 win over South Carroll. D.J. Doyle threw for 112 yards and a touchdown and also ran for 60 yards.

Poolesville Falcons (1-4) at Hancock Panthers (3-2)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Poolesville leads, 8-1.

Last meeting: 1996 - Poolesville, 30-8.

Last week: The Falcons lost to Clarksburg, 40-20. ... The Panthers beat West Nottingham, 32-13.

Notes: The Falcons have lost their last four games following a season-opening win over Brunswick, 20-16. This is the Falcons' third game against a Washington County opponent. They were beaten by both Boonsboro and Smithsburg. QB Nick Loftus threw two touchdown passes in the loss to Clarksburg, the No. 22 team in Maryland. The Panthers ran for 277 yards in their win over West Nottingham, led by 151 yards and two TDs from Josh Unger. Joey True also ran for two touchdowns.

Calvin Coolidge Colts (6-1) at Martinsburg Bulldogs (4-2)

When: Today, 7 p.m.

Series: Martinsburg leads, 1-0.

Last meeting: 2006 - Martinsburg, 49-0.

Last week: The Colts beat Wilson (D.C.), 34-13. ... The Bulldogs beat Hedgesville, 39-7.
