Hubs blast FSK

October 09, 2007|By JACK HILL III / Staff Correspondent

After scoring an early goal, the North Hagerstown girls soccer team went cold Monday night.

But at the rate the Hubs were firing at the Francis Scott Key goal, they couldn't possibly have been finished scoring.

The No. 1 Hubs outshot FSK 34-1 on the way to a 7-0 victory over the Eagles at Mike Callas Stadium.

North (7-1) experienced a 36 1/2-minute drought after Stephanie Borland scored in the second minute of the game from Alluka Ogle-Moore.

Still, the Hubs took a 3-0 lead into halftime, thanks to scoring strikes by Katie Ritter and Ogle-Moore - off an assist from Maria Borland - in the final two minutes of the first half.

"I'm kind of pleased with the way that the girls played tonight, especially after the last three games were tough," North Hagerstown coach Rick Aleshire said. "In the first half, we were holding the ball too much. We weren't looking for the open man. In the second half, we were looking for the open man a little bit better and that opened things for us.."

Ashley Binau scored her first goal in the 43rd minute off an assist from Hannah Barton to give the Hubs a 4-0 lead and Stephanie Borland added her second goal just five minutes later.

Susan Kelly and Binau closed out the scoring for North, each scoring off an assist from Jess Shuff.

"I felt that the reserves played well tonight," Aleshire said. "That allowed me rest to my starters a little bit more. We have got five more games in the next two weeks. We are going to have to rely a little bit more on our bench."

JV: North, 4-0.
