Police release photo of man shot dead in Hagerstown

October 08, 2007

Hagerstown Police have released a photograph of a man shot to death Friday and are offering a cash reward for information that leads to the identification of someone involved in his death.

David Leonard Moore, 23, of 105 E. Washington St. in Hagerstown, was found dead Friday afternoon inside 101 East Ave. in Hagerstown. Police said Moore also was known as "D Block" and "Damoo."

Police said Monday they were investigating several leads and were asking the public for help.

"Someone out there knows more than what we know right now, and we really want those people to come forward," Sgt. Paul Kifer said.

He said posters with Moore's photo and other information were posted near the apartment building where he was killed.

One of those posters was taped on the building at the corner of East Avenue and North Locust Street above a makeshift memorial.

Flowers were stuck in an empty Hennessy cognac bottle that rested on the stoop outside the apartments where Moore died. A card that was signed by friends of Moore's mentioned that he had a girlfriend and a daughter.

A stuffed bear and a T-shirt also were placed on the stoop.

Kifer said the picture of Moore being used on the posters is likely his mug shot taken after a previous arrest.

Moore was charged in February with distribution of a fake controlled substance, possession with the intent to distribute a fake controlled substance and possession of marijuana, police said. Police allege he sold fake crack cocaine to a police informant.

He pleaded guilty to distributing fake cocaine and was sentenced to one year in jail with 10 months suspended. He also was sentenced to one year of unsupervised probation, according to court documents.

He was charged in June with theft, and that case had not been resolved, according to court documents. His address at the time of that arrest and the one in February was 920 N. Mulberry St. in Hagerstown.
