EPA greens up creek

October 06, 2007

The Environmental Protection Agency, in conjunction with the Maryland Geological Survey, put dye into Beaver Creek on Friday morning to conduct water tests, according to Don Cosden of the Maryland Department of Natural Resources.

The dye was poured into the creek to determine whether Beaver Creek contributes water to a spring that feeds the trout hatchery off Md. 66, he said. The hatchery is just north of Interstate 70.

Cosden said the dye is harmless, and he didn't know when the fluorescent color would leave the water.
