Hammond earns Eagle Scout rank at Court of Honor

Boy Scout Troop 17, Williamsport, honored Clinton Nicholas Hammond with the highest award in Scouting - the Eagle Scout - on Sept. 22 at Downsville Ruritan Park.

He is the son of Terry and Arlene Hammond.

The Court of Honor was called to order by Assistant Scoutmaster Chris South II and the Opening Ceremony was conducted by Troop 17 and Troop 58.

Ceremonial lighting of the campfire and the Boy Scout Laws were performed by Troop 17 and Troop 58. The Significance of the Eagle was read by Assistant Scoutmaster Jay Lauver, with the Eagle Qualification read by Committee Member Mark Sylvain and Assistant Scoutmaster Dwayne Lunsford. Assistant Scoutmaster Chris South, Sr. gave the Eagle Charge and Eagle Scout Christopher Hammond, brother of Clinton gave the Eagle Pledge. Scoutmaster Jay Nase presented the Eagle Badge and Clinton then presented his mother with a miniature Eagle pin and his father with an Eagle tie tac. State Sen. Donald F. Munson, R-Washington, presented a State Resolution. Pat Shank, Allan Swope and Mr. Mellott, members of the Downsville Ruritan Club, presented an Eagle Scout watch and bolo tie.

Clint began in scouting as a Cub Scout with Pack 58 in Downsville in the fall of 1994 as a Tiger Scout. He earned all of the Cub Scout ranks, including the highest award in Cub Scouting, the Arrow of Light, in 1999 and then crossed the bridge into Boy Scouts joining Troop 58. He later transferred to Troop 17 in Williamsport. He was trained as a Den Chief and assisted Cub Scouts in Pack 58. He is a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He has attended summer camp at Sinoquipe Scout Reservation and the National Jamboree at Fort A. P. Hill. Clint has earned 23 merit badges.

Clint's Eagle project was to restore the recreational equipment at the Downsville Ruritan Park. The project also provided some landscaping. He was assisted by members of the Troop 17, family and friends.

Troop 17 is sponsored by the Williamsport United Methodist Men's Class.
