Area Roundup - Hawks perfect in run to Genesee title

BATAVIA, N.Y. - Hagerstown Community College did not lose a single game in the Kamina Allen Tournament, finishing with a 6-0 record and a 30-21, 30-19, 30-27 win over host Genesee Community College in Saturday's title match.

The Lady Hawks defeated Rhode Island in the semifinals, 30-15, 30-18, before beating Genesee to win the tournament. They went 4-0 in pool play, beating St. Clair 30-17, 30-21, 30-24, Howard 30-13, 30-22, 30-16 and Rhode Island 30-18, 30-19, 30-25 on Friday, and Mott 30-19, 30-18, 30-16 on Saturday.

Tournament MVP Magda Tekiel had 77 kills, 14 blocks and 19 aces over both days. Jess Ambrose tallied 210 assists and Ashley Arentz added 32 kills, 17 aces and 26 digs. Ambrose and Arentz were both named to the all-tournament team for the Hawks (25-1).

Wheeling Jesuit 3, Shepherd 0

WHEELING, W.Va. - Julie Robertson led Shepherd with eight kills and 12 digs, but the Rams were swept, 30-21, 30-25, 30-22 by Wheeling Jesuit (11-8, 7-0).


Emily McCoy had seven kills and four blocks and Danielle Felicio recorded 19 digs for Shepherd (4-13, 1-6).

Seton Hill 5, Shepherd 0

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Nicole Perger scored twice, Elaine Zaveckas added a goal and an assist and Angela Palumbo and Ashley Moulton each scored for Seton Hill (6-7, 3-4) in a win over Shepherd (4-7-1, 3-4).


HCC at Don Cathcart Invitational

SALISBURY, Md. - The Hawks men's team finished seventh out of 13 schools Saturday at Salisbury University. Dustin Adams led the Hawks, finishing in 20th place in 26:30 on the 8K course. Justin Cole finished in 26:54 to place 30th.

Lindsey Hollenshead placed third among the women, running the 6K course at Winter Place Park in 22:10.


Hawkins second in 25K

CAMBRIDGE, Ontario - Jaron Hawkins, 24, of Hagerstown's Cumberland Valley Athletic Club, placed second in a field of roughly 900 runners at the seventh annual Run for the Toad 25K trail race.

Hawkins covered the 15.5 miles in 1:30:36. Talme Silva of Portugal won in a course-record 1:30:22, as he and Hawkins both eclipsed the previous mark of 1:32:04.
