X-ray vision

September 26, 2007|By DON AINES

Franklin County (Pa.) Sheriff Robert Wollyung points to the outline of a gun in a document case picked up by the recently installed X-ray machine in the county courthouse. The satchel, used for demonstration purposes, detected the gun despite it being wrapped in aluminum foil. The machine was paid for with a grant from the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts, Wollyung said. It will be used in conjunction with a metal detector at the courthouse entrance to detect weapons and other contraband.
