NFL Week 3 - The best teams win

September 26, 2007|By ROBERT KELLER

Week three was the end of the surprising games as Detroit, Houston, San Francisco and Cleveland all lost. For Cleveland, it was their second loss, while the other three teams lost their first games of the season.

The best game this week was between Arizona and Baltimore. The defense of the Ravens collided with the offense of the Cardinals. At the half, Baltimore was ahead 20-3, exactly like the Ravens' game against the New York Jets a week earlier. But the tide turned. The Cardinals had tied the Ravens 23-23 toward the end of the game. Still, Baltimore had a little left as Ravens kicker Matt Stover put Baltimore ahead for good with a game-winning 46-yard field goal.

Other games this week included New York at Washington, San Francisco at Pittsburgh, and Detroit at Philadelphia. Washington had an early lead over the Giants but failed to protect it, giving the Giants their first win, 24-17. San Francisco lost big to the Steelers, 37-16. Detroit played well for a while but lost its rhythm and got crushed, 56-21.

My record for predicting games so far this season is 4-4. For Week 2, I was 3-1; this past week, I was 1-3. This week I am picking: Houston to beat Atlanta, Baltimore over Cleveland, Denver to fall to Indianapolis, and Pittsburgh to suffer its first defeat at the hands of Arizona and backup quarterback Kurt Warner.
