Riders to raise money for breast cancer awareness

September 26, 2007

GETTYSBURG, Pa. - Last year, 77 riders from the Tri-State area saddled up to raise $10,441 in the first Ride the Trail to a Cure in Michaux State Forest.

On Saturday, about twice that number of riders are expected to take part in the second annual ride at Gettysburg National Battlefield Park. The ride is sponsored by the Grey Mare Society and supports the Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition and Breast Cancer Awareness - Cumberland Valley, which serves Pennsylvania, Maryland and West Virginia.

Registration is 8:30 to 10 a.m. at the Artillery Ridge Camping Resort and National Riding Stable. The ride is expected to last three to four hours, said Linda Golden, one of the event's organizers.

A breakfast of coffee and pastry will be served and lunch will be provided, Golden said.

Sponsored participants will receive prizes, including a poncho, bag, blanket and saddle pad for those raising $350 or more in pledges. Golden said riders can sponsor themselves with a donation.
