County to hold drill at city water plant

September 21, 2007

The Washington County Local Emergency Planning Committee will conduct a drill Saturday at the City of Hagerstown RC Willson Water Production Plant.

The drill will test the county's emergency response plan by simulating a chlorine leak at the plant, said Verna Brown, emergency management coordinator for the planning committee.

Brown said the planning committee does similar tests once a year at various county facilities.

She said emergency vehicles involved in the drill will not use lights or sirens and will not violate traffic laws by speeding or running red lights.

"The goal of these drills is not to test response times; it's to make sure our plans are executed well," Brown said. "Residents in the area probably won't even notice it."

Roughly 35 fire and emergency services agencies will be involved in the drill, according to a Washington County press release.

The drill will run from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.

Brown said people with questions about the drill should call 240-313-2910 on the day of the drill.
