Tire collection set in Berkeley Co.

September 20, 2007

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. - Berkeley County residents next week may bring up to 10 old tires per person with a valid West Virginia identification to the South Berkeley Recycling Center to be recycled, the West Virginia Department of Environmental Protection has announced.

The event will be Sept. 28 and 29 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 637 Pilgrim St., in Inwood, W.Va.

Tires with rims still in them will not be accepted and only car and light truck tires - 16 inches or less - can be disposed during the event. Haulers and businesses are not allowed to participate in the event hosted by the Berkeley County Solid Waste Authority-operated facility.

The recycling event is being made possible in part through Gov. Joe Manchin's REAP - The Next Generation initiative within DEP's Division of Land Restoration.
