Pa. offers money for youth ag projects

HARRISBURG More than $12,500 in matching and direct grants are available to help youth organizations enhance leadership development programs, Agriculture Secretary Dennis Wolff said Monday.

Agricultural and rural youth grant applications are available for innovative projects in aquaculture, animal science, food safety and other agriculturally-related topics, he said.

Project proposals should demonstrate their relevance to agriculture or rural issues and they should show originality and community influence, Wolff said.

Applications must be postmarked by Oct. 31.

Since 1992, the agricultural and rural youth grant program has awarded 377 direct grants and 56 matching grants totaling more than $1.3 million to FFA, 4-H, agricultural Extension and agricultural education organizations statewide.
