WOODBINE, Md. - A Hagerstown man died Saturday evening at Howard County General Hospital following a single-vehicle motorcycle accident on the ramp from eastbound Interstate 70 to Md. 94 in Howard County, according to Maryland State Police.

Sam Loper, 55, of 47 Redwood Drive, was riding a 2001 Harley-Davidson motorcycle on the ramp and lost control, according to troopers from the Maryland State Police barrack in Jessup.

Loper's son, Michael Frantz Loper, died at City Hospital in Martinsburg, W.Va., following an April 2002 motorcycle accident at Mountaineer Raceway in Inwood, W.Va.

Sam Loper was interviewed by The Herald-Mail for a story about his son's death.

"He died doing what he loved," Sam Loper said at the time.

During that interview, Sam Loper described motorcycle riding as a "wholesome activity" that he and his son enjoyed almost every weekend.
