Pizza Hut robbed at gunpoint

September 17, 2007|By ERIN CUNNINGHAM

Police were looking for a man Sunday who robbed Pizza Hut on Dual Highway in Hagerstown at gunpoint late Saturday.

They say the robbery could be related to last week's armed robbery at Dunkin' Donuts.

Just before 11 p.m. Saturday, a man wearing a "Jason-style" mask and wig with dreadlocks walked into the restaurant at 1396 Dual Highway and walked to the front cash register with a handgun, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Department. The man pointed the handgun at some employees and one customer, police said.

Police said the man took some money from the cash register and fled on foot toward Mount Aetna Road.

Police said they arrived at Pizza Hut within minutes of the robbery, but were unable to find the man. Units from the Sheriff's Department, Hagerstown Police Department and Maryland State Police searched the area, along with police dogs and helicopters.

The description of the man who robbed Pizza Hut and the man who robbed Dunkin' Donuts are similar, police said.

The man is described as black, 5 feet 10 inches tall, and weighing 250 to 260 pounds, police said. He was last seen wearing a blue shirt and dark pants.

Anyone with details about either armed robbery, or anyone who might have been in the area of the robberies, may call police at 240-313-2183.
