Blues Fest draws music lovers

September 14, 2007

Almost before the charcoal cools from Memorial Day cookouts, Hagerstown gets a serious case of the blues.

Now in its 13th year, the Western Maryland Blues Fest draws music fans from all over the region for a full weekend of concerts and activities featuring artists performing every shade of blues.

The 2008 Blues Fest begins May 28 with a free Blues Prelude at University Plaza downtown and concludes June 1 with a free Family Blues Picnic at Hagerstown's City Park, according to founder and co-chairman Carl Disque.

Tickets are required for the Lotta Blues concert May 30 in downtown Hagerstown's Central Parking Lot and for the festival's main event, the Downtown House Party on May 31.

Children's activities are planned as well, including the annual Kids Jam Too! downtown.

Educational workshops have been conducted during the festival at the Washington County Arts Council and the Washington County Museum of Fine Arts.

More information on the upcoming Blues Fest will be added to the event Web site at www.blues-fest.org. The site will include ticket information and a complete schedule, once it has been finalized.
