Ag Expo showcases farming

September 14, 2007

The Washington County Agricultural Exposition, or Ag Expo, is a true country fair with 4-H members showing the animals and homegrown garden vegetables they have raised.

There's a lot more to this weeklong event - including truck and tractor pulls - but no carnival rides.

The 2007 Ag Expo was held July 20 to 27.

In 2007, Kerri Nicely, 16, a student at Smithsburg High School, was crowned Ag Expo Queen.

4-H and FFA youth and open class exhibits include animals, home arts and horticulture.

Any member of the public who would like to exhibit can find information in the Ag Expo catalog that comes out by June 1. The catalog is available at the Washington County Cooperative Extension Office at 7303 Sharpsburg Pike; at the Washington County Free Library and all of its branch libraries; the Hagerstown-Washington County Convention and Visitors Bureau at 16 Public Square in Hagerstown; and the Farm Service Advisory Office at 1260 Maryland Ave. in Hagerstown.

The event concludes with the 4-H/FFA Market Animal Sale. The annual event features livestock raised by youngsters who show and sell the animals at auction.

Ag Expo is held at the county's Agricultural Education Center south of Hagerstown on Sharpsburg Pike.
