League of Women Voters has variety of interests, issues

September 14, 2007

The League of Women Voters of Washington County has about 50 members, male and female, of all political parties or no political party.

Some belong to the organization although they live outside the county.

The president is Fanny Crawford. Monda Sagalkin is co-president.

These days, the League of Women Voters is particularly interested in housing issues and has been active in the issue of charter home rule for the county. The group also has been active in boosting voter registration here.

The League has lunch with the Washington County Commissioners once a year to get to know them and discuss issues with them.

The organization generates a voters guide, both published and online. During county election years, the League participates in candidate forums.
