The job center is a federally funded program to help people find jobs and help employers recruit workers.

It offers free Internet access, copiers, fax machines, a resource library, rsum software and a database of job openings.

Certified professional rsum writers and other specialists are available.

The Job Center, part of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation, holds or co-sponsors job fairs throughout the year.


The job center is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; and Thursday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Western Maryland Consortium is a regional government agency formed in 1974 to serve Washington, Allegany and Garrett counties.

It helps people find jobs, including those starting new careers after becoming unemployed.

After mass layoffs, the consortium works with the Washington County One-Stop Job Center and the Maryland Division of Unemployment Insurance to help employees who were affected.

The consortium's services for individuals include rsum assistance, computer lessons, Internet and telephone access, postage, a fax machine, local labor market information, career evaluations, college and technical school information, job search assistance, counseling and job training.

The consortium is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
