Renaissance dinner to raise scholarship money

September 12, 2007

Elizabethtowne Feaste and Frolic, a dinner-theater scholarship fundraiser with a Renaissance theme, is scheduled Sept. 15 at Duffy's On Potomac.

The reception begins at 6 p.m. and will include music by the North High School String Quartet. Dinner begins at 7 p.m., and the chef has kept Renaissance history in mind.

Volunteers from the Potomac Playmakers will assist in creating ambiance for the evening. The Robinwood Players will present the Renaissance comedy "Taming of the Shrew" beginning at 8 p.m.

Local business people started a scholarship effort to provide assistance to Washington County residents enrolled in upper division or graduate work at the University System of Maryland at Hagerstown. The theme emerged from the fact that USMH is an important part of the downtown renaissance.

This special evening of entertainment is designed to showcase the educational continuity and opportunity available in the community from high school to community college to upper division and graduate work. The scholarship effort is all about making education more accessible, according to event chair Gaye McGovern.

All funds raised are managed by the Community Foundation of Washington County MD Inc. The first scholarship awards will be made when the Waltersdorf/Henson Challenge Program ends in 2011.

Reservations may be made by sending a check for $100 per person payable to the Community Foundation of Washington County MD Inc. at 33 W. Franklin St., Suite 203, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
