Last season, the Maryland JuCo Conference title was decided in the regular-season finale when Howard won 15-13 in the final game of a five-game thriller over Hagerstown Community College.

On Monday night, the thrill was gone for the Dragons.

HCC got its revenge by sweeping Howard 30-15, 30-15, 30-20 at the HCC athletic complex.

"I think the team played really well and pretty consistently," HCC coach Beth Domenico said. "We came out and got after it against a pretty good team. I think our hitters played pretty consistently and that helped us to control the match."

Kim Snavely had team-high totals of 22 digs and 14 service points.

"I have been working on the placement of my serves for different positions," Snavely said. "I have spent some extra time on that."

Snavely said HCC was ready to get even with Howard after last year's close loss.

"We knew what we had to work on. The key to our victory tonight was everyone playing their best," Snavely said. "We came out fired up. Our serving helped us to build a big lead."

Jessica Ambrose helped to set up the kills for HCC (15-1, 3-0) by getting 43 assists.

Magda Tekiel had 15 kills, 12 service points and seven aces for the Hawks. Ashley Arentz had 14 service points, 12 kills, four digs and three aces for HCC. Brittany Horn and Kierra Nelson added five kills each for the Hawks.

In the first game, Arentz served six consecutive points and Snavely had a string of four points to help HCC build a 13-2 lead over Howard (2-4, 1-1).

Tekiel added six straight points in the second game to help the Hawks take a 14-5 advantage. Horn had a game-ending block for HCC.

Snavely got four more points in a row in the third game as HCC extended its lead to 29-18. Kira Brooks-Ford got a match-ending kill to seal the win for the Hawks.
