You Said It

"When the new library in Boonsboro opens, will it still be a part-time library, or will it be open full time? A library in South County that has full-time hours would be a wonderful addition. The current hours are very inconvenient."

"No one can tell you the feeling you feel when your purse is missing. A place like Prime Outlets, on a Sunday, where people come from all over. Some very wonderfully honest good person found my purse and turned it in to the information desk. They left no name that I could reward them. Only know you will be rewarded in Heaven. Thank you so very much."

"I have been reading about the school board's current redistricting plans for the new school at Westfields. Have they even considered how many children live in the Westfields and need to attend that school? I think they should survey to find out how many children are actually supposed to go to the new school, and then they can decide how many other children can be bused in. I do agree that the schools are overcrowded, but this does not solve the problem. Before this school opens, it will already be over capacity. We need more schools in Hagerstown, period."

"As the Orioles continue descending into ridiculousness, speaking for many local fans, I say this is a scene that absolutely won't be tolerated next year. We will always love the Orioles for what they used to be, but will not accept another fiasco like we've endured this year. We expect changes in a pitching staff that continues to get blown up night after night. There's not much help forthcoming from the farm teams, so Angelos better find a way to get some quality pitchers via free agency. He already knows his days as owner may be numbered. Another season like this one might be enough to put him out of business."

"That lot across from Potomac Towers on West Walnut Street - it's beginning to look like a miniature jungle again. I hope the city takes care of it. Thank you."

"Please be very cautious. I received a phone call, and they wanted to give me a free credit report. They need your Social Security number, which I did not give to them, but on my return call when I called back the number that had called me, it says 'That number is not in service,' So please be careful when you answer the phone and you don't fall for their scam. Thank you."

"There was plenty of negative comments when I announced in Mail Call that I was going to be humanely trapping the wild animals, the cats specifically, and turning them in to the humane society. Since that time, I have trapped three. They're over at the humane society as I speak, being well taken care of, of course. Those people at the humane society do a good job. I've also caught a groundhog, which I turned loose out in the country, along an old country road. So if anybody has any complaints, put it in Mail Call, because I'll just laugh at them."

"To answer the caller that says Hillary promises health care and does not believe her, Bill Clinton could not get a health care plan approved, because both houses were Republican and voted against it. Now the Democratic houses can't get things approved because the president, George Bush, is Republican and vetoes it. I hope this caller can understand this."

"To the 'I am very appalled' from Hagerstown: I wanted to console your feelings in regard to the 25-year-old cat. You have to understand the person who commits these actions are usually showing off for their friends or the next mass murderer to appear. I am so sorry for your hurt, and the justice is agreeable to me. If we would give inmate the same treatment as their victims suffered, maybe they would know and become different. If I were to get a hold of that person, I surely would enjoy."

"Maybe somebody out there can explain to me the voting process for rankings in college football. Appalachian State just beat Michigan. They are not listed in the top 25, or even in others receiving votes. Michigan, though not listed in the top 25, received 39 votes. Why isn't Appalachian State, after knocking off the previous No. 5 team in the nation, not even listed? It makes no sense to me whatsoever. Can somebody explain it? Thank you."

(Editor's note: Beginning this week, Appalachian State and other teams in the NCAA Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA, will be eligible to receive votes in The Associated Press poll.)

"This is in response to the person who claims to know a lot about the disappearance of songbirds, due to wandering cats. The number one reason for the disappearance of songbirds is loss of habitat, so unless you know stray cats cutting down trees, I wouldn't point my finger at them. By the way, caller, do you eat chicken?"
