City posts CSX number

September 07, 2007

Hagerstown city officials have posted CSX's telephone number at four railroad crossings so motorists can call the railroad to complain about the condition of the tracks.

Three of the signs are near Park Circle at Walnut Street, and Summit and Virginia avenues, said Jim Bender, assistant city engineer. The fourth sign is on Oak Hill Avenue.

The city is using the signs to put pressure on CSX to repair rotten ties and sunken rails at the crossings, City Engineer Rodney Tissue said last month.

Besides listing CSX's number, the signs warn motorists that rough tracks lie ahead.
