Central office lobby work approved

The Washington County Board of Education voted Tuesday to approve more than $85,000 in renovations to the school system's central office lobby.

The vote was 7-0.

Director of Maintenance and Operations Michael Peplinski said original estimates for the project were about $10,000 less because the project changed slightly.

"Originally, we were leaving the walls and adding on," he said. "Now, (we're eliminating) the wall and building a room on both sides."

Officials said the accepted bid was not the lowest because they believed the contractor who offered the lowest bid lacked enough experience for the project.

The contractor doing the renovation work will be GRC General Contractors, based in Zullinger, Pa.

Two committee members appointed

The Washington County Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to approve two new members of the facilities and enrollment advisory committee.

Board Member Paul W. Bailey was at the afternoon meeting but was not present for the vote.

The new members representing the Boonsboro and Hancock areas will fill two vacancies on the committee. One of those vacancies was left open when Donna Brightman was appointed to the Board of Education.

The two newly appointed committee members are Donna Hull and John Bellistri.

Laptops donated

Ten laptop computers recently were donated to Emma K. Doub Elementary School.

The Washington County Board of Education voted unanimously Tuesday to approve that donation.

Board Member Paul W. Bailey was at the afternoon meeting, but was not present for the vote.

The laptops will be used in the school's portable laptop lab in its media center. Board President Roxanne R. Ober called the donation from The Presidio Co. "generous."
