Reward offered for graffiti creators

SMITHSBURG - The town of Smithsburg is offering a $500 reward for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for graffiti in the Veterans Park area.

The same graffiti tag has been found on the pavilion at Veterans Park, on a private garage near the park, on a contractor's property near the library, and at the town's elementary and high schools, Mayor Mildred "Mickey" Myers said.

The Town Council voted Tuesday to approve the $500 reward.

Smithsburg Police Chief Michael Potter said police chased, but did not catch, several vandalism suspects Friday night. He said he believes the vandals are residents of the town and he does not believe the graffiti is gang-related.
