September 04, 2007

A Hagerstown man who allegedly pointed a rifle at his wife and their two adult children and told them he was going to burn the house down surrendered to Washington County Sheriff's deputies without incident early Monday.

Michael Scott Dunahugh Sr., 43, of 11405 Rock Hill Road, was charged with three counts each of first- and second-degree assault, and one count of arson threat, deputies said.

Deputies were called to the home Monday at 4:57 a.m. and upon arrival, saw a man running from the house. He was taken into custody while other deputies contacted Donna Jean Dunahugh who said her husband had become angry and started hitting her with his hands.

She barricaded herself in a bedroom with their two children, ages 18 and 21, and called police.

Dunahugh was able to force the door partially open and pointed a rifle inside, threatening to kill his family, deputies said. Dunahugh also allegedly activated a smoke detector and told them he was going to burn the house down.
