September 04, 2007

Auditions for Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company's annual production of "The Nutcracker" will be Sunday from 1:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. at The City Ballet School.

The school is at 14 N. Potomac St. in the Elizabeth Hager Center in downtown Hagerstown.

Performances of "The Nutcracker" will be presented at The Maryland Theatre on Saturday, Dec. 8 at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday, Dec. 9, at 3 p.m.

Dancers must be present for the entire block of time noted below for their age group, the company said in a press release.

These are not individual walk-in auditions. More than 80 dancers will be needed for this production, the company said.

"All children who wish to audition must currently be studying ballet. Dancers are needed for children in the party scene, big and little mice, soldiers, snowflakes, Waltz of the Flowers, big dolls, cookies, angels, polichinelles, and the character dances in Act 2. Adults are needed for the party scene. Adults do not need previous dance experience," the company said.

The audition schedule is:

· Ages 12 and older - 1:30 to 2:30 p.m. (arrive by 1:15 p.m.)

· Ages 8 to 11 - 2:45 to 3:45 p.m. (arrive by 2:30 p.m.)

· Ages 5 to 7- 4 to 4:45 p.m. (arrive by 3:45 p.m.)

Each child's birth date must be on or before Sept. 1, 2002, the company said. Dancers must audition in the correct age group.

The audition fee is $10.

"All children wishing to audition must be accompanied by an adult and arrive in proper dance attire. Please arrive 15 minutes early to allow time to register and get ready," the company said.

It said dancers should be sure to bring along the following information: child's height, weight, and dress, shirt and pants sizes.

Rehearsals will be at The City Ballet School.

The Potomac Classical Youth Ballet Company, under the artistic direction of Lauran Clowser, sponsors this production.

A complete rehearsal schedule will be provided to dancers cast in the production, it said.
