Pa. resident charged with attempted homicide

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. - A Shippensburg woman was charged with criminal attempted homicide and arson after allegedly setting fire late Friday to a Southampton Township house while three people were upstairs, according to a Pennsylvania State Police press release.

Laverne Z. Zimmerman, 22, is being held in the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $1 million bail, police said.

Zimmerman allegedly set fires in two places on the first floor of a home at 7490 Olde Scotland Road, police said.

Reuben Z. Oberholtzer, 55, and Minerva H. Oberholtzer, 58, who own the home, and Ivan Horst, 47, of Shippensburg, were on the second floor of the home when the fires were set, police said. They escaped the fire, with Minerva Oberholtzer sustaining minor injuries, police said.

The fire, which was reported Friday at 11:19 p.m., caused about $290,000 in damages, police said.

State police had no further details Saturday night.
