Eston H. Hoffman, 92

FREDERICK, Md. - Eston H. Hoffman, 92, of Frederick, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at Kline Hospice House.

He was born Dec. 2, 1914, in West Virginia.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Quinn Hoffman.

He was employed by Fort Detrick, retiring after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Mount Carmel United Methodist Church in Frederick, where he was a Sunday school teacher and a lay leader.

He was a member of New Market (Md.) Grange.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Crouse Hoffman; seven children, Judy Baker of Hagerstown, Martha J. Crummitt of Brunswick, Md., Nancy C. Ray and Pamela L. Burke, both of Frederick, Eddie H. Hoffman of Stevensville, Md., Doris J. Henry of Middletown, Md., and Darryl W. Hoffman of New Midway, Md.; one stepdaughter, Cynthia Wyant of Thurmont, Md.; one stepson, Gary Crouse of Middletown; 14 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

Services will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick. The Rev. Jenny Smith and the Rev. Jerry Cline will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.

Guy W. Mann, 78

CARLISLE, Pa. - Guy W. Mann, 78, of Carlisle, died Saturday, Sept. 1, 2007, at Forest Park Health Center in Carlisle.

Born July 19, 1929, in Hancock, he was the son of the late Earl R. and Verna L. Beattie Mann.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rachel Ervin Mann, in 1970.

A retired construction worker, he had worked for the former Wible and Son Construction Co. in Three Springs, Pa.

He is survived by four children, Edna M. Sherrif of Shippensburg, Pa., Harold W. Mann of Greensboro, N.C., Paul D. Mann of Graterford, Pa., and M. Leona Swartz of Newburg, Pa.; one sister, Hazel Perry of Fayetteville, Pa.; two stepsons, Philip Ervin and Robert Ervin, both of Chambersburg, Pa.; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one daughter, Sharon L. Mitchell; and two brothers, Clyde Mann and Carl Mann.

Services will be Tuesday at 1:30 p.m. at Thomas L. Geisel Funeral Home, Chambersburg. The Rev. Paul B. Baker will officiate. Burial will follow in Grindstone Hill Cemetery, Chambersburg.

The family will receive friends Monday from 7 to 9 p.m. and Tuesday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home.

Evelyn E. Bonney, 88



SEPT. 11, 1918-AUG. 30, 2007

FREDERICK, Md. - Evelyn E. Bonney, 88, of Frederick, died Thursday, Aug. 30, 2007, at Frederick Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 11, 1918, in Thurmont, Md., she was the daughter of the late Edward A. and Edna L. Gall Nicholson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Ralph Bonney, in 2001.

She was a member of Evangelical Lutheran Church in Frederick, where she was involved with WELCA.

She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 79, a leader of Rainbow Girls of Camp Hill, Pa., Jobe's Daughters Bethel 57 Wheaton Woods and the Girl Scouts.

She is survived by one daughter who lived with her as a caregiver, Patti Shank of Black Hawk, Colo.; one brother, Barney Nicholson of Frederick; three grandchildren, Alex Kidwell of Thurmont, Bruce Shank of San Diego, and Bill Shank of Black Hawk; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Joann E. Kidwell; and brothers and sisters, Duke Nicholson, Gloria Green and Bob Nicholson.

Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, Frederick. The Rev. David G. Oravec will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Ridge Cemetery, Thurmont.

The family will receive friends Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home, where the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 79 will hold a memorial service at 7:30 p.m.

Christopher W. Travers, 53



MARCH 23, 1954-AUG. 31, 2007

Christopher Wallace Travers, 53, of Hagerstown, died Friday, Aug. 31, 2007, at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore.

Born March 23, 1954, in Baltimore, he was the son of Wallace E. and Jean H. Hill Travers of Durham, N.C.

He was a 1972 graduate of St. Petersburg (Fla.) High School, and attended Penn State University and Franklin County Career and Technology Center in Chambersburg, Pa.

He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post 42 of Hagerstown, and the Moose Lodge of Hagerstown and of Chambersburg.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Kauffman; one son, Shane of Clearwater, Fla.; one sister, Kathy Travers of Durham; one aunt; and cousins.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Edward Travers.
