The Jackmans

Lowell and Donna Jackman of Smithsburg celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner June 23, 2007, at Washington Square United Methodist Church in Hagerstown. About 100 of the couple's family and friends attended.

The couple renewed their marriage vows with the Rev. C. Richard Masters performing the ceremony, and Zack Worthy provided music for the ceremony and dinner.

The Jackman's were married June 15, 1957, at Swissvale United Methodist Church in Swissvale, Pa., east of Pittsburgh. The Rev. Richard Nutt, chaplain for Penn State Wesley Fellowship, and the Rev. Cecil Kelly, pastor of the church, performed the ceremony.

Mr. Jackman is the son of the late Charles and Naomi Jackman of Rote, Pa. Lowell is a graduate of Girard College for Boys in Philadelphia and the University of Pittsburgh. He retired from Washington County Hospital as supervisor of maintenance.

Mrs. Jackman is the daughter of the late Gilbert and Emma Smith of Swissvale. She graduated from Swissvale High School and Penn State University. She was a school teacher and sold real estate for many years for ACO Realty, a division of Oliver Homes.

The celebration was hosted by their children, the Rev. Dennis and Cindy Jackman of Martinsburg, W.Va.; Sherilyn Jackman of Smithsburg; Lt. Col. Dale and Ana Jackman of Centreville, Va.; and Amy and Theron Boughter of East Petersburg, Pa. All the Jackman grandchildren were present to help with this event.




The Saurs

Mr. and Mrs. R. Ross Saur of Greencastle, Pa., celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 21, 2007, at Four Points Sheraton on Dual Highway with family and friends from Maryland, Ohio, Pennsylvania and Texas.

The dinner was hosted by their children and their families, Brenton and Patrice Saur and their daughter, all of Williamsport; Bryan Saur of Austin, Texas; and Blythe and Robert Terkelsen and their son, all of Frisco, Texas.

R. Ross and Janice Saur were married Dec. 23, 1956, at First Baptist Church in Cheraw, S.C., by the Rev. H. Dwight McAlister.

The Saurs are retired from the Washington County Board of Education with a combined 71 years of teaching.

Mr. Saur is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Harman and Jane Saur of Jersey Shore, Pa. Mrs. Saur is the former Janice Snyder, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Eldridge and Etta Snyder of Greencastle, Pa.
