'Dogs to break in new turf tonight

August 31, 2007|By MARK KELLER

If all goes according to plan, the new artificial turf at Martinsburg High School's Cobourn Field will be ready in time for the Bulldogs' varsity football game tonight against Potomac Falls.

Just in time.

Martinsburg coach and assistant principal David Walker said crews will begin putting rubber beads on the field surface today at 5 a.m. and expect to be finished by 3 p.m., just four hours before the scheduled kickoff.

"If it rains, we might have to push the game back to Saturday, but right now, we're on for (today)," Walker said.

The Bulldogs' season opener was moved to Morgantown last week because of delays installing the turf. Several soccer games also have been postponed or moved to alternate sites.
