Final $500 donation covers Hancock school's playground project

August 29, 2007

HANCOCK - The First National Bank of Greencastle recently donated the last gift needed to cap off a $50,000 fundraiser to purchase new Hancock Elementary School playground equipment.

The bank gave $500 to the project. The bank previously donated $500 in January.

"This is wonderful," said Kristen Robison, chair of the Panther Playground Committee. "This is more than we needed to reach our goal. We're going to use the extra funds to buy sports equipment for the kids.

"Since our drive began last fall, we've been very pleased about how the community has supported us, and we're very grateful to First National, too," she added.

To celebrate the end of the drive, Robison asked bank CEO/President Jeff Shank and Hancock Community Office branch manager Angie Hager to paint in the remaining funds space on the Panther Playground Fund slide in front of the school.

"It's always a great opportunity for us when we can do something that benefits the whole community and especially children," Shank said. "We're eager to play a larger role in Hancock's future."

The school's current playground equipment was in need of an upgrade to conform with the guidelines established by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission.
