'Claws clip Suns

August 28, 2007

It was quick and painful.

Tuffy Gosewisch lined a two-run double to ignite a three-run rally with two outs in the sixth to lead Lakewood to a 3-1 victory over the Hagerstown Suns on Monday in a 1-hour, 50-minute game.

Suns starter Yunior Novoa had faced the minimum number of BlueClaws hitters through the first 5 2/3 innings until Julian Williams hit a two-out ground-rule double.

After hitting Quintin Berry with a pitch and uncorking a wild pitch, Novoa was touched for Gosewisch's double.

Adrian Cardenas beat Novoa to the bag on a grounder to first for a single. Novoa dropped Robby Jacobsen's throw for an error to score Gosewisch and give Lakewood a 3-0 lead.

The Suns (51-79, 22-41) got their only run in the seventh on Francisco Plasencia's 14th homer of the season.

Lakewood's Darren Byrd pitched the complete-game victory, allowing the one run on five hits while striking out eight.
