Pa. man killed, local couple injured in U.S. 522 crash

NEEDMORE, Pa. - A Gettysburg, Pa., man was killed in a Saturday night car crash with a Hagerstown woman on U.S. 522, Pennsylvania State Police said.

Harry M. Hartman, 71, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Lori Jean Shoemaker, 34, the driver of the other vehicle, and passenger Donald Elwood Shoemaker Jr., 41, also of Hagerstown, were both taken to Fulton County Medical Center for treatment for moderate injuries.

The crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. Saturday. Shoemaker was driving north on Pa. 655 in a 1995 Toyota 4Runner while Hartman was driving south on U.S. 522 in a 2006 Toyota Corolla. The vehicles collided in the intersection of the two highways, police said.

The roads were closed at the intersection and traffic was detoured until 2 a.m. Sunday, police said.

Police were still investigating the incident Monday evening.
