Shepherd welcomes 10 new full-time faculty members



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - Shepherd University has added 10 new full-time faculty members.

Carol Adams of Williamsport is the new visiting assistant professor of nursing education. She received a master's degree in nursing administration from the University of Maryland-Baltimore in 2003.

Stephanie Barnett of Rocky Mount, N.C., is visiting assistant professor of English. She received her Ph.D. with an emphasis in literacy, composition, rhetoric and linguistics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2006.

· Maria Francheska Guerrero of Hagerstown is assistant professor of graphic design. She received a master of fine arts degree in 2D design from Cranbrook Academy of Art in Bloomfield Hills, Mich., in 2003.

· Heidi Hanrahan of Richmond, Va., is assistant professor of English. She received her Ph.D. in American literature before 1900 from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro in 2005.

· Elizabeth Jenkins of West Union, Ohio, is assistant professor of reading education. She received a master of arts degree from Mary Grove College in Detroit in 1999.

· Seung-yun Kim of Centreville, Ohio, is assistant professor of computer science. He received a master of science degree in electrical engineering from the University of Dayton (Ohio) in 2003.

· Alan MacDonald of Oakton, Va., is visiting associate professor of business administration. He received a Ph.D. in business administration from the University of Oregon in 1967.

· Jason McKahan of Tallahassee, Fla., is assistant professor of mass communications. He received a master of art degree in classics and humanities from Florida State University in 2003.

· Mary Strasma of Minneapolis is visiting assistant professor of history. She received her Ph.D. in Latin American history with a secondary field in world history from the University of Minnesota in 2007.

· Quing Wang of Waterloo, Ontario, is visiting assistant professor of mathematics. She received a master of science degree in mathematics from Hunan Normal University in China in 2002.




Shepherd foundation to oversee nursing scholarship



SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. - The Shepherd University Foundation will oversee a nursing scholarship in memory of Peggy Collins Porterfield, who was employed as a nurse by City Hospital.

Porterfield, a 1958 graduate of the City Hospital nursing program, died in 1979 as a result of an automobile accident.

The scholarship was started by her daughter, Jennifer J. Porterfield, who is a 1993 Shepherd nursing graduate.

The scholarship will be available to residents of Morgan, Berkeley or Jefferson counties pursuing nursing degrees at Shepherd.

Penn State Mont Alto to host information session



MONT ALTO, Pa. - Penn State Mont Alto will host a general information session Thursday, Sept. 13, at 2 p.m. for people interested in attending Penn State.
