Erica DiMercurio scored two goals for St. Maria Goretti as the Gaels opened their season with a tie against Berkeley Springs.

Corrie Riffle scored a pair of unassisted goals for the Indians (1-0-2), the second coming in the 75th minute to tie the match at 2-2.

Justin Beachley and Sandra Maina each had an assist and Andrea Buckner had four saves for the Gaels, who outshot the Indians, 16-8.

University 3, Martinsburg 2

INWOOD, W.Va. - Emily Sphar scored the winning goal in the 75th minute to lead University over Martinsburg in a match played at Musselman High School.

Amy Wright and Jamie Hill scored first-half goals - both assisted by Kristin Marshall - for Martinsburg (1-1) as the Bulldogs forged a 2-2 halftime tie with the Hawks (2-0-2. Wright also had an assist on Hill's goal.

Jasmyne Bartley had 11 saves for Martinsburg, which had its boys-girls home doubleheader against Berkeley Springs postponed Wednesday because of ongoing delays with the installation of the school's new artificial turf field.
