Lawhorn powers Suns

SALISBURY, Md. - Trevor Lawhorn went 3-for-5 with a three-run homer as the Hagerstown Suns beat the Delmarva Shorebirds 8-6 on Thursday night.

The Suns scored two runs in the top of the eighth inning to break a 6-6 tie. John Poppert doubled and scored as Michael Martinez reached on a two-out fielding error to give Hagerstown a 7-6 lead. Francisco Guzman followed with a single to score Martinez.

The Suns trailed 6-2 before rallying for four runs in the fifth, highlighted by Lawhorn's blast.

Coby Mavroulis (1-1) pitched 1 1/3 scoreless innings of relief for the win. He struck out three of the five batters he faced.

Martinez also had three of Hagerstown's 14 hits, while Guzman, Francisco Plasencia and Poppert each had two. Lindon Bond also homered for the Suns.
